When humidity is high, evaporation of the water in evaporation vests takes longer. That is why the chilling effect of this type of cooling vest reduces under high humid conditions.
Airflow also influences evaporation: the more airflow, the better water can evaporate.
With this in mind we can say that evaporation vests work best when humidity is 70% or lower. When there is plenty of airflow or wind, evaporation vests can be effective up to 80% humidity.
If you need cooling under high humid conditions and/or little airflow, we recommend our PCM cooling vests.
If you need maximum cooling for a short amount of time, choose the 14ºC (58ºF) PCM. If you’ prefer less cooling but for a longer amount of time, go for the 21ºC (70ºF). Imagine being in a sauna; 21ºC (70ºF) feels very cool in a situation like that!
